So much for the theory that acts in their prime no longer want to play on our rock in the middle of the Pacific.

What could be bigger than seeing hip-hop superstar Lil Wayne on Saturday night at Blaisdell Arena?

If this 26-year-old rapper isn't at his peak, we'll soon find out how high he can climb when he releases "Rebirth" on June 9. It's his rock debut album and follow-up to last year's incredibly successful hip-hop/rap CD "Tha Carter III."

Lil Wayne's Honolulu concert is part of his "I Am Music Tour" with Gym Class Heroes, Keri Hilson and T-Pain.

He is music royalty right now, evidenced by the former Blender magazine recently crowning him the "Greatest Rock Star Alive."

To wit:

• "Tha Carter III" has gone multi-platinum and was the top-selling album of 2008, with more than a million copies sold in the first month.

• It won for best rap album at the 2009 Grammy Awards, while single "Lollipop" won for best rap song and "A Milli" took best rap solo performance.

• "Lollipop," the first single off "Tha Carter III," held the Billboard top spot for 12 straight weeks — the longest run for any song this decade.

• His latest single, "Mrs. Officer," is the fourth No. 1 off "Tha Carter III" and the CD's ninth hit single.

• He won the Artists Choice Award at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards.

• He took home seven BET Hip-Hop Awards in 2008. The accolades include lyricist of the year, Alltel Wireless People's Champ and track of the year for "A Mill." His track "I'm So Hood" with DJ Khaled was awarded best collaboration and he also won ringtone of the year for "Lollipop."

• He was nominated for favorite album (hip-hop/rap music) at the 2008 American Music Awards.

Guys standing 5 feet 6 and weighing 140 pounds (being generous here, giving the soaking wet extra pounds) shouldn't loom so large, but Lil Wayne does, even when he's not making music.

Of late, he's been in a spat with fellow rapper 50 Cent, taking shots at him not once, but twice, in songs. (Since this is a family paper, we'll skip printing the lyrics and just say jab No. 1 is on "Louisianimal" and jab No. 2 is on "Let's Talk Money," a solo leaked online on March 20).

Lil Wayne hasn't addressed the feud publicly and may never. He moves at his own speed. Hence, the chance he's taking by following "Tha Carter III" by making a rock debut.

Why mess with success? We can only guess it's because he likes to take chances, have fun and, mostly, make money. (Hint: His record label is Cash Money Records).

He's already released "Prom Queen" and "Hot Revolver" from the new CD and you can bet he's going to play both tunes Saturday night.

One other thing about Lil Wayne is that he's one of the greatest collaborators of all time.

He's hooked up with — among others — Birdman, Young Money, B.G., Trina, Chris Brown, Destiny's Child, T.I., 3LW, Big Tymers, Juvenile, Fat Joe, OutKast, Snoop Dogg and Akon.

Big acts don't come to Hawai'i anymore?

Please. They don't get any bigger than Lil Wayne.
