In a maneuver that would appeal to the mischievous side of late artist Peggy Chun, patrons are invited to come to the opening of the new gallery featuring her work dressed as their favorite whimsical character from one of Chun's paintings or murals. The grand opening celebration for the Peggy Chun Gallery, 1161 Nu'uanu Ave. in Chinatown, is 5 to 9 p.m. today, First Friday; 545-4810. Penguins, snorkeling cows and tap-dancing pigs are expected.

The new gallery offers prints, cards, calendars, cookbooks and original paintings, including a large selection of Peggy's Nose Paintings, one of her last creations. Gallery president Kimi Chun is offering 10 percent discounts to shoppers who arrive in costume.
