Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i surfers continued their successful run through the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship yesterday.

The Boys 18 and Girls 18 divisions ran heats in 4- to 6-foot waves at Salinas, Ecuador.

All six Hawai'i surfers in action yesterday advanced.

In the Boys 18 division, Dylan Goodale remained undefeated by advancing through the fourth round of the winners bracket. In the repechage heats, Tanner Hendrickson and Albee Layer advanced through their respective heats.

In the Girls 18 division, Malia Manuel, Leila Hurst and Alessa Quizon advanced through the fourth round of the winners bracket in impressive fashion.

Quizon had the best wave of the day, receiving a score of 9.17 (out of 10) after completing a series of hard turns on a 6-foot wave. Hurst had a similar wave in her heat and received a 9.0.

With three days of competition remaining, Hawai'i has 11 surfers still in contention. Three-time defending champion Australia is the only team with the maximum 12 surfers still in contention.
