Woman dies in fall from H-1 overpass
A woman died yesterday after she jumped or fell off the Seventh Avenue overpass onto H-1 Freeway in Kaimuki, a spokesman for Emergency Medical Services said. Following the 1:30 p.m. incident, the woman, 49, was taken in critical condition to an area hospital, where she died.
MOTORCYCLIST FOUND DEAD ON RUGGED TRAIL
A motorcyclist was found dead yesterday on a trail above the Kahuku Motocross Track.
Honolulu Fire Department rescue crews and Emergency Medical Services personnel searched the rugged area for almost an hour after receiving a report that a motorcyclist had suffered a heart attack and needed help, HFD spokesman Capt. Earle Kealoha said.
Motorcyclists eventually guided HFD and EMS personnel to the site about a mile from the motocross track, where the man was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m., EMS spokesman Bryan Cheplic said.
FATHER CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING INFANT SON
Police charged an 18-year-old Hilo man with first-degree assault Friday for allegedly causing serious head trauma to his 4-month-old son, the Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported.
Kainoa C.E. Poepoe-Vigil is being held in the Hilo police cellblock on $100,000 bail. His initial appearance is scheduled for Monday afternoon at South Hilo District Court.
Police Capt. Randall Medeiros said fire rescue personnel took the baby, who was unconscious and unresponsive, to the Hilo Medical Center emergency room at about midday Wednesday. Hospital personnel notified police, Medeiros said, and officers arrested Poepoe-Vigil that afternoon.The boy was later flown to The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, where he was listed in critical condition.
CRASH VICTIM ID'D AS MAKAWAO MAN
A motorcyclist who died Monday after crashing down an embankment off Piilani Highway in Ulupalakua has been identified as 36-year-old Harrison Higa, of Makawao.
Maui police said Higa was traveling west on the highway when he lost control of his KX250F Kawasaki motorcycle, an off-road bike, and went down the embankment.
He was taken to a hospital on O'ahu, where he was later pronounced dead.
This was Maui County's seventh traffic fatality of the year, compared with five at the same time last year.
