Earth Day is coming up, and Waikiki Aquarium and the City & County of Honolulu are getting a jump on the action.

  • Go to the Earth Month Web pages on the city's Clean Water Web site — www.cleanwaterhonolulu.com/storm/news/earth _month_2009.html — to learn about water pollution prevention information, volunteer or report illegal discharges or dumping.

  • Look for the Hawai'i Backyard Conservation supplement in The Advertiser on Wednesday, for tips on conserving and improving natural resources in your backyard.

  • In celebration of Earth Day, the Waikiki Aquarium hosts a free Mauka to Makai Environmental Expo, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The expo will showcase the efforts of city, state and federal agencies to preserve and protect Hawai'i's environment, with an emphasis on the Islands' unique water resources.

Family-friendly activities will include picture-taking with Apoha the 'o'opu, water pollution prevention games, arts and crafts, and storytelling about Hawai'i's environment; www.waquarium.org.
