Census workers to begin 'Address Canvassing' in Isles

The 2010 Census begins operation "Address Canvassing" today with hundreds of workers fanning out to all known streets and roads in the Islands to identify every living quarter where people live — or potentially could live, Census officials said.

Census workers will use global position system equipment for the first time in the history of the Census to confirm, add and delete addresses, Census officials said.

Census workers will carry identification but will not enter homes and will not ask questions, other than to inquire if there are other homes in the area, Census officials said.

Workers, however, will knock on doors to let residents know they are in the neighborhood.

Address Canvassing is scheduled to conclude on June 19. It's a follow-up to the initial Census effort that began on March 29.
