Police arrest suspect in Chinatown stabbing

By Curtis Lum
Advertiser Staff Writer

A 22-year-old man was arrested this afternoon in connection with last week Friday's stabbing of a man in Chinatown.

Hine Laloulu turned himself in at the Kalihi police substation at about 4:30 this afternoon. He was booked on one count of attempted second-degree murder and was expected to be transferred to the main police station later today.

Laloulu is suspected of being one of several men who beat and stabbed a man and assaulted a woman Friday afternoon on River Street. The victim told police that one of his assailants, a man in his 20s, stabbed him several times in the stomach during the fight.

Police believe the incident is related to an ongoing battle between rival organized crime groups to control the distribution of drugs in the Downtown area.
