WILSON TUNNELS
Man, 38, from Kailua identified as Likelike Highway fatality

The city medical examiner's office yesterday identified the man killed in a crash on Likelike Highway Sunday night as Gareth Baoy, 38, of Kailua.

Police said Baoy was the driver of a 1998 Toyota pickup truck that crashed near the Kane'ohe-bound entrance to the Wilson Tunnel.

The accident happened very close to the place where three people were killed in a high-speed crash on Feb. 26.

The accident reported at 10:06 p.m., police said. An officer with the police vehicular homicide section said the driver lost control of the truck, which spun sideways and crashed into a utility building near the entrance to the tunnel.

Baoy man was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:29 p.m.

Police said speeding may have been a factor in the case. The driver was not wearing a seat belt. He was the only person in the truck.
