NBA: Cavs' rookie Hickson out with sore back

Associated Press

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Cavaliers rookie forward J.J. Hickson will miss two to three weeks with a sore lower back.

Hickson underwent an MRI on Wednesday and the club said the test revealed a "stress reaction" in his back. He has been advised to get rest and treatment. Hickson has had his minutes reduced in recent weeks as fellow rookie Darnell Jackson has gotten more time in coach Mike Brown's rotation.

Although they'll be without Hickson, the Cavaliers had center Ben Wallace (broken leg) and forward Anderson Varejao (bruised wrist) for Wednesday night's game against Washington. Wallace, out since Feb. 26, will initially be restricted to about 15 minutes, Brown said.

Varejao missed Cleveland's previous game against San Antonio, but was in the starting lineup as the Cavs tried to improve their home record to 38-1 against the Wizards, who shocked them last week.
