KAUA'I
Volunteers sought at Polihale and Nawiliwili for cleanups

The Sierra Club and Surfrider Foundation Kaua'i chapters plan cleanups Saturday at Polihale State Park and April 18 at Nawiliwili Harbor.

The Polihale cleanup will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, on the access road to the now-closed park and in the park itself. Volunteers will meet at the park entrance gate, must sign release forms and will not have access the beach.

Volunteers are asked to bring their own drinking water, sunscreen and sun protection. Those willing to work in kiawe thickets are advised to wear shoes, long pants and arm protection, as well as a tool to help reach into the kiawe.

For more information, contact Gordon LaBedz 808-337-9977 or GLaBedzMD@aol.com.

The April 18 cleanup at Nawiliwili is an Earth Day activity, to begin at 9 a.m. The goal is to remove marine debris from in and around the harbor.

Trash bags, gloves, pupu, coffee and beverages will be provided. Volunteers should bring sunscreen, hats and water. For more information, call Steve Benjamin 808-639-5397 or Barbara at 808-635-2593.
