KEAUHOU
Redemption center closing for 'glasscrete' pad upgrade

The Keauhou Mixed Recycling and HI-5¢ Redemption Center at the Keauhou Transfer Station will be closed Sunday through April 24 for site upgrades.

Rubbish drop-off services at the transfer station will remain open for normal business hours from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The closest alternative recycling and HI-5¢ redemption center is at the Kealakehe Transfer Station.

A concrete pad made with recycled glass is being installed at the Keauhou redemption center and mixed recycling area. The "glasscrete" pad will reduce mud and ponding in the recycling area and result in a cleaner site and improved access, according to the county Department of Environmental Management.

Funding for the project is provided by a grant from the state Department of Health's HI-5¢ program.

For more information, contact the county Solid Waste Division's Recycling Section at 961-8527 or 961-8270, or visit www.hawaiizerowaste.org.
