KAUPO
Repaving project will close portion of Pi'ilani Highway

Repaving work on a portion of the historic Pi'ilani Highway in the Kaupo area will require intermittent road closures Monday through April 24. The county Department of Public Works said traffic delays may last up to 30 minutes.

Vehicles will be routed through a detour on the road shoulder when possible; however, county officials said complete closures will be needed in narrow areas to ensure the safety of workers and motorists.

The $539,310 project includes a half-mile stretch of the highway between mileposts 26 and 27, near Manawainui Gulch. Striping of the road will start about two weeks after the paving is completed, with little disruption to traffic, officials said.

Contractor Maui Paving LLC has placed signs on both ends of the project area to notify motorists of anticipated road closures, which also will be posted at www.mauicounty.gov in the "Road Closure Notifications" section.
