Roderick Flemings is apparently still considering whether to officially declare for early entry into the 2009 NBA Draft, according to University of Hawai'i men's basketball head coach Bob Nash.

Nash said he met with Flemings this week to discuss the star player's future with the Rainbow Warriors.

"He said he's thinking about putting his name in the draft, but he still wants to talk it over a little more with his family," Nash said. "At this point, I don't know what the decision will be. I'm sure we'll talk more after he talks things over with his family."

Flemings, a 6-foot-7 guard/forward, averaged 16.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a junior with the 'Bows last season.

Flemings said last week that he wanted to declare for early entry into the draft, but without an agent. As long as he does not sign with an agent, he can still withdraw from the draft before June 15 and return to Hawai'i for his senior season.

"I just want to get my name out there, get into a (pre-draft) camp and have fun," Flemings said last week.

Flemings has until April 26 to file the official paperwork for early entry into the 2009 draft.

Nash said he has filed a request with the NBA for a pre-draft assessment of Flemings.

"The NBA provides a service for athletes who are thinking about putting their name in the draft to see where they might fit," Nash said. "It gives an objective view of where you might get drafted, if you do get drafted. I'm not certain how quickly the NBA will respond, and the information is confidential anyway, so we'll have to wait and see if it affects Rod one way or another."

Flemings indicated last week that the only way he would not return for his senior season is if it appears he can be a first-round selection for the June 25 draft.

"I want to go in the first round, that's my dream," he said. "Unless somebody comes out and say they want me in the first round, I'm pretty sure I'll come back here."

Aran Smith, president of the nbadraft.net Web site, said Flemings is "a longshot" to get drafted in 2009. He currently lists Flemings as a second-round pick for 2010.

FITZGERALD LEAVING

Conrad Fitzgerald, a reserve player for the 'Bows this past season, has informed the Hawai'i coaches that he intends to transfer.

Fitzgerald, a 6-5 guard, was recruited to Hawai'i as a scholarship player in 2007. He redshirted the 2007-08 season, then his scholarship was relinquished.

He remained with the team this past season as a walk-on. He appeared in just nine games and scored a total of eight points.

Because Fitzgerald was a non-scholarship player, his departure will not affect the ongoing recruiting plans of the UH coaches.

Fitzgerald is the third player from this past season's roster who will not return. Lasha Parghalava and Adam Jespersen said last week that they also intend to transfer.
