Advertiser Staff

Hawaii County police are seeking the public's help in providing information about a California man who went missing while spearfishing in Kona on Saturday.

Paulo Dominici, a restaurateur from San Francisco, went spearfishing with a friend in calm waters off the Kona Makai condominiums at 6:45 a.m.

The friend returned to shore at 9:30 a.m. At 10:47 a.m., he reported Dominici missing.

Fire Department rescue crews located Dominici's mask, snorkel and other equipment, but no trace of the man.

Police have classified the case as a missing person investigation.

Dominici is the owner of Bacco Ristorante, a popular restaurant that's been in business since 1993.

He was vacationing in Hawaii with his wife and daughter.

Police ask anyone who may have seen Dominici to call Detective Sharlotte Bird at 326-4646, extension 228, or the Police Department's non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
