Hawai'i center fielder Kolten Wong, who hit .667 in four games last week, was named Western Athletic Conference hitter of the week, while the Rainbows dropped out of the Baseball America poll yesterday.

Wong, a freshman from Hilo, helped the Rainbows go 2-2 on a road trip to Santa Clara and Nevada. He was 12 for 18 with two home runs, three doubles, 10 RBI and seven runs scored.

The Kamehameha-Hawai'i graduate also had two stolen bases and two walks. Against Santa Clara, Wong turned a double play to record his team-leading fourth outfield assist of the season. In the WAC series at Nevada, Wong hit .667 (10 for 15).

Daniel Simon of New Mexico State was named the WAC pitcher of the week.

The Rainbows (21-12, 4-3 WAC), who made their first appearance of the season in the Baseball America Top 25 last week at No. 23, yesterday dropped out of the poll voted on by the magazine's staff.

Hawai'i opens a four-game WAC series against Sacramento State Friday at Les Murakami Stadium.
