Panelists will discuss flu-vaccine priorities tonight on KHNL

Advertiser Staff

The issue of who should be vaccinated first in the event of an influenza pandemic will be discussed tonight during the first of three live, call-in panel discussions from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on KHNL-TV.

Panelists include Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona; state health director Dr. Chiyome Fukino; Dr. Sarah Park, state epidemiologist and chief of the Department of Health's disease outbreak control division; and community representatives.

Each of the three televised segments will cover different perspectives on vaccine prioritization, the health department said.

KFVE Channel 5 will rebroadcast the programs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 26 and May 3. Viewers can log on to www.khnl.com to watch streaming video of the broadcasts.

Also, the Department of Health will launch its "Alternate Reality Game" from May 24 through May 30 at www.coralcross.org. The game puts users into the year 2012 during an influenza pandemic that does not yet have a vaccine. The intent is to give participants insight into the social, economic and public health aspects of dealing with a pandemic as it unfolds, the health department said.

Community meetings also are tentatively being arranged for May. Times and places will be announced.
