Lajola beats No. 4 player in nation, but UH loses to USC

Despite a big win at No. 1 singles by sophomore Dennis Lajola, the University of Hawai'i men's tennis team lost to host Southern California, 4-3, yesterday at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles.
Lajola, ranked 89th nationally, beat fourth-ranked Robert Farah, 4-6, 6-4, (10-4). He has now beaten the top-seeded players from USC, UCLA, California and Arizona.
UH's other points came on Sascha Heinemann's 3-6, 7-5, (10-4) victory over No. 63 Steve Johnson, and Andreas Weber's 6-2, 6-7, (10-6) conquest of No. 84 Abdullah Magdas.
The 78th-ranked Warriors fell to 5-8 while the No. 7 Trojans improved to 19-4.

JONES PLEADS GUILTY
Former University of Hawai'i football player Keenan Jones, who competed at the UH Pro Day April 2 in Carson, Calif., pleaded guilty in Circuit Court March 17 to charges of abuse of a household member, unlawful imprisonment, witness tampering, terroristic threatening and criminal trespass.
In the court hearing last month, Judge Randal Lee sentenced Jones to one year of probation and payment of $185 in court fees. Jones was also ordered to obtain mental health services as directed by his probation officer.
Jones is prohibited from ownership or possession of firearms and consumption of alcohol or unprescribed drugs.
Jones declined to address the court at sentencing.
