Advertiser Staff

Two people were in serious condition today following a one-vehicle accident on Kamehameha Highway near Hale'iwa.

The accident prompted police to shut down Kamehameha Highway in the southbound direction at the Wahiawa end of Joseph P. Leong Highway. The road was reopened by 4 p.m., police said.

According to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Earle Kealoha, the vehicle appeared to have been heading toward Hale'iwa when the driver lost control and veered into some brush off the roadway.

The driver, a woman in her 20s, was initially taken to a local hospital in critical condition, according to Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic. The passenger, a man in his 20s, was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Shortly before 4 p.m., police said the woman had been upgraded to serious condition.
