Author to speak on Islam at St. Andrew's Cathedral

Saleem Ahmed, author of the book, "Islam: A Religion of Peace?" will discuss the role war and peace play in the Muslim faith — and what causes Muslims to follow such divergent paths — at the next of the "Thursdays at St. Andrew's" community presentations at the cathedral.

Also, as part of the 5:45 p.m. Thursday presentation, Ahmed will offer his recommendations for global peace.

The event is free and open to the public.

BAHA'I FAITH OBSERVES SACRED FESTIVAL OF RIDVAN

The Honolulu Baha'i Community will celebrate the Festival of Ridvan, the most sacred observance in the Baha'i faith, beginning Tuesday.

The festival marks Baha'i founder Baha'u'llah's 12-day stay in the Garden of Ridvan (paradise) in 1863. On April 21, Baha'u'llah made the first public declaration of his mission.

The First, Ninth and 12th days of Ridvan will be observed, respectively, at 3 p.m. Tuesday; 7 p.m. April 28, and 7 p.m. May 1, at the Baha'i Center, 2165 10th Ave., Palolo.

The program for the First Day will include a performance by Chandra 'Iolani Susilo, University of Hawai'i masters of fine arts candidate.

JUBILEE CELEBRATION MARKS SIGNIFICANT ANNIVERSARIES

A Mass honoring priests and religious sisters and brothers who are celebrating significant anniversaries of ordination or profession, will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Catholic Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa.

The Diocesan Religious and Clergy Jubilee Celebration will be followed by a reception.

The public is welcome to attend.
