Miller sweats out weigh-in

Advertiser Staff

Kala Kolohe Hose and Jason "Mayhem" Miller both made the 185-pound weight limit for tonight's Kingdom MMA middleweight championship bout.

The official weigh-ins took place yesterday afternoon at Oceans 808 nightclub, and came with a little bit of drama.

Miller originally came in a half-pound overweight, and was given one hour to cut the excess. After jogging with a sweatsuit on, he made the weight, but then shouted expletives and shoved Hose during a photo session.

Tonight's card, which will feature 10 total bouts, will begin at 7:30 at the Blaisdell Center Arena. Tickets range from $15 to $150.

A professional grappling bout was added to the card, featuring standouts Rylan Lizares and Ronald Jhun. No striking will be allowed, and the only way to win is via submission.

UH FALLS TO SJSU, 5-4

Natasha Hawkins' three-run triple sparked a four-run bottom of the sixth as San Jose State rallied for a 5-4 victory over Hawai'i yesterday in a Western Athletic Conference game at SJSU Field.

The Rainbow Wahine didn't go quietly as Dara Pagaduan, who went 3-for-3, tripled in a run and scored on Clare Warwick's RBI single to make it 5-4 in the seventh. But after Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu singled to put runners at first and second with only one out, reliever Deanna Mauer got a fly out and pop up to end the game.

The loss ended a five-game winning streak for the Rainbow Wahine (20-21 overall, 8-5 in conference). The Spartans improved to 18-27 and 5-8.

The two teams play a doubleheader today starting at 9 a.m.
