HPU softball sweeps past CU

Krystal Plunkett had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Nicole Riviera drove in four runs as Hawai'i Pacific defeated Chaminade, 12-0, yesterday to complete a sweep of a nonconference softball doubleheader at Howard A. Okita Field.

Sherise Musquiz, who went the first three innings, and Ashley Valine teamed on a five-hitter for the Sea Warriors (38-10) in a game shortened to 4 1/2 innings by the mercy rule. Skye Virtudes had two hits for the Silverswords (9-36).

In the opener, Courtney Kessell pitched a three-hitter with three strikeouts and one walk, Plunkett had three hits and three RBIs and HPU scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game by mercy rule with an 8-0 victory.

Ciera Senas and Casey Sugihara each had two hits and two RBIs for the Sea Warriors.

KICK DEADLINE NEARS

The registration deadline for the "KICKNATION" camp May 23-24 at Waialua High School for kickers, punters and long-snappers has been extended to Wednesday.

KICKNATION coaches Chris Shaw and Clinton Greathouse have trained several All-Americans, Lou Groza and Ray Guy Award winners, including 2008 Ray Guy Award winner Matt Fodge of Oklahoma State.

A minimum of 50 participants are required or else the camp will be canceled, according to Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance director Doris Sullivan. For more information, log on to www.pacificathleticalliance.com or call 261-5000.

UH SOFTBALL SET

The University of Hawai'i softball camps are set for June, with two open to all players and a third dedicated to pitchers.

The first camp is June 17 to 19 and is for players ages 7 to 12. It goes from 4 to 7 p.m. each day. Cost is $100.

The second camp, June 24 to 26, is for those 13 to 18, and runs 4 to 6 p.m. Cost is $75.

The pitching clinic is June 28, with younger players (ages 7 to 12) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and older players (13 to 18) 12:30 to 2 p.m. Cost is $35.

All camps will be at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Discounts are available.
