Maui Onion Festival announces chef and event lineup

The 20th annual Maui Onion Festival, which this year has moved up from summer to spring, will feature chef Russell Siu of 3660 on the Rise, Patric Callarec of Chez Paul, James McDonald of Pacific'O and I'O, Colin Nishida of Side Steet and David Paul Johnson of David Paul's Island Grill (soon to open) with Guy Hagi of KGMB as emcee and TV children's chef Cutty Cutler.

The chefs will compete in an onion dish cookoff with Siu defending his title from last year.

Maui Onion Growers will be on hand to talk story about the history of the Maui Kula onion and there will be music, food booths, produce and products for sale.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. May 2 at Whalers Village Fine Shops & Restaurants in Kaanapali. Entry is free.

A Maui Onion Pairing Dinner at Hula Grill is set for May 1: call the Grill, 808-667-6636.
