Residents urged to conserve water after power outage

The Maui County Department of Water Supply is asking customers in Central and South Maui to conserve water through today, after a power outage affected pumps serving six wells.

The affected areas include Pa'ia, Ku'au, Spreckelsville, Pu'unene, Kahului, Wailuku, Waihe'e, Waikapu, Ma'alaea, Kihei, Wailea and Makena.

The power outage affected six wells in Waihe'e and Waiehu, which provide one-third of the water supply to Central and South Maui.

In order to extend the supply currently available in storage tanks, water customers are asked to turn off irrigation systems and use water only as needed for health and safety purposes. Once power is restored, water tank levels will begin to return to safe storage levels.
