Team Aloha goes 3-2

Advertiser Staff

Team Aloha, an all-star girls basketball squad from Hawai'i, went 2-2 in the Arizona Elite tournament and 3-2 overall on its trip to Phoenix last week.

Hawai'i opened with a 52-38 scrimmage win over the Spokane Stars Blue. They then opened the tournament with a 40-28 victory over Team Concept Fire.

Hawai'i lost in the second round to Spokane Stars Blue, which had earned a bye as the top-seeded team in the event's all-star division, 39-35.

In the consolation bracket, Hawai'i defeated Arizona Elite-Drake, 48-37, then lost to Baden Elite, 37-35, on a late 3-pointer in overtime.

The Arizona Elite is the largest NCAA-sanctioned tournament west of the Mississippi at this time of year, and is attended by college coaches and scouts from schools across the nation.

Team Aloha won the consolation championship last year. Two years earlier, Team Aloha won the prestigious Nike Storm + Swish Fall Shootout in Santa Barbara.
