Hawaii weather: Sunny today, showers tonight

Moisture associated with the leading edge of a weakening cold front remained nearly stationary near the Big Island tonight, focusing showers over windward portions of the Big Island, the National Weather Service said.

The front will linger across the area into the second half of the week, according to the forecast.

An upper level disturbance will bring more widespread rainfall to the state late Thursday into the weekend with locally heavy rainfall possible at times.

The trade winds will become more easterly and diminish into the second half of the week.

Here's a more detailed look at the next few days:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 79. Northeast wind between 11 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Tonight: Scattered showers after 7pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. East wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: Scattered showers, mainly before 7am. Partly cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday Night: Showers likely, mainly after 7pm. The rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday: Showers likely. The rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Showers likely. The rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
