Unusual performance explores Hawaiiian identity

It's not a concert, not a hula ho'ike, not strictly theater.

But "HOME: Inside and Out," a one-night-only show 7:30 p.m. May 2 at Leeward Community College Theatre, will employ elements of all three in a series of vignettes performed by a trio of young Hawaiians who have in common a deep connection to their culture through hula, music and language.

The three are Lono Padilla of Maui, Robert Ke'ano Ka'upu of Hawai'i Island and Chadwick Pang of O'ahu, who met and formed an artistic bond on O'ahu. They will explore the connections to "home" in the deepest sense of belonging and identity with the backdrop of place, family, friends, values and emotions.

Tickets: $25, available through mauiarts.org or at the door.
