Maui forum set Friday on sustainable tourism

The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui is sponsoring a free public forum Friday on "Sustainable Tourism Pathways for Maui Nui."

The event will be held at Maui Community College's Pilina Student Lounge.

In addition to discussions with visitor industry officials and others, the forum will feature presentations by William Durham, co-director of the Center for Responsible Travel at Stanford University, and Masaru Takayama of the International Ecotourism Society.

John Cusick of the Environmental Center at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and Harold Richins of the UH School of Travel Industry Management will provide information from Tuesday's Summit for Sustainable Travel in the Hawaiian Islands held on O'ahu, while Ramsay Taum, special assistant to the dean at the School of Travel Industry Management, will moderate a discussion on envisioning a sustainable tourism future for Maui.
