Neighbors help douse Hanapepe Heights house fire

Advertiser Staff

HANAPEPE — Quick action by neighbors yesterday helped confine a fire at a Hanapepe Heights home.

Neighbors called 911 and used garden hoses to contain the fire to a laundry room at a Kane Road home.

No one was injured.

When firefighters from the Hanapepe station arrived at the scene, the fire was almost extinguished.

Kalaheo firefighters arrived soon after, and the two crews worked together to put out the fire, which was deemed fully extinguished at 7:15 p.m.

Damage is estimated at $20,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
