More menu choices, recyclable packaging and a new premium meal option are all part of Hawaiian Airlines' expanded food service that continues complimentary meals to its customers in coach class.

Hawaiian launched the new "Ono Bistro" meal on all trans-Pacific flights. The complimentary meals include an entree made with no preservatives, dessert and soft drink.

Passengers also now have the option to purchase a new premium meal for $10, which offers a variety of entrees, dessert and bottled water. Examples of the premium meals include: sushi bento box with California rolls, edamame, teriyaki chicken, ginger, wasabi and a side salad; taco salad with grilled chicken breast, diced tomatoes and onions, guacamole, salsa, sour cream and tortilla chips; and chicken Caesar salad with grilled chicken breast, romaine lettuce and parmesan cheese.

TECH TAX-CREDIT BILL BACK TO PANEL

A legislative bill that would make major cuts to the state's high-technology tax credit failed to make it to the floor of both houses yesterday after being sent back to a conference committee.

The measure would temporarily cap Hawai'i's controversial tax credit program and limit the practice of allowing Mainland investors to transfer their tax credits to local investors.

Technology credit advocates who supported less stringent cuts had criticized Senate Bill 199 as being unconstitutional in retroactively applying restrictions to investments made before its enactment. The bill has been recommitted to the conference committee for further review, after which it could again be put up for a final vote.

WALGREENS OPENS WAIPAHU SITE

Walgreens continued its Hawai'i expansion this week with the opening of a small pharmacy-only store in Waipahu.

Walgreens acquired the 1,188-square-foot pharmacy in a medical office complex on Farrington Highway across from the Waipahu Shopping Plaza. Previously, the store was the Waipahu Town Pharmacy owned and operated by Craig and Esther Murobayashi. The Murobayashis now manage the Walgreens store.

The Waipahu store is the first pharmacy-only site on O'ahu for the company, which opened four similar stores in December and January on Maui. The drug store retailer also has three full-service stores on O'ahu in Kane'ohe, Kalihi and near Ala Moana Center.
