 •  With 'The General,' 'it'll never be dull'

Advertiser Staff

Ko Olina Golf Club will host a "Get Golf Ready" kickoff Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day is designed to get non-golfers and beginners on the course.

It will include free clinics, contests, prizes, keiki activities and more. Highlights include clinics with PGA pros and special guests Lorens Chan (2009 Hawai'i State Amateur champion) and Kristina Merkle (2008 PGA Tour Juniors Series champion). There will also be free food and drinks, a sidewalk sale and club testing from manufacturers such as Callaway, Cobra, Nike, Ping, TaylorMade and Titleist.

Register at http://www.playgolfamerica.com to win a chance at a $50 gas card from Aloha Petroleum. For more information, call 676-5300 or visit http://www.koolinagolf.com.

Saturday's events are part of Ko Olina's involvement in the World Golf Foundation and Golf 20/20's Get Golf Ready program. PGA and LPGA professionals will teach golfers what they need to know to step onto a golf course and play with confidence, and have fun.

In five days, players receive six hours of lessons that include on-course experience, free use of rental clubs and range balls during lessons and a maximum 8-to-1 teacher-to-student ratio. Cost is $99 per person. Groups of four or more can schedule their own time.

The first sessions will be Tuesdays (May 5, 12, 19, 26 and June 2), Wednesdays (May 6, 13, 20, 27 and June 3) and Saturdays (May 9, 16, 23, 30 and June 6). Second sessions are Tuesdays (June 23, 30, July 7, 14 and 21), Wednesdays (June 24, July 1, 8, 15 and 22) and Saturdays (June 27, July 4, 11, 18 and 25).
