Maui hospital offers classes on cardiovascular health

Maui Memorial Medical Center is once again offering its free Malama Pu'uwai (Take Care of Your Heart) community cardiovascular wellness program.

The program will be presented Fridays from May 8 through June 12 at Kula Hospital. Class time is 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Malama Pu'uwai focuses on education, healthful food choices, exercise, screening and referrals. Participants must commit to the six-week program, with follow-up meetings held six and 12 months later.

Included is a free health assessment and lifestyle profile, blood pressure and body mass index evaluations, blood glucose and cholesterol lab tests, counseling with a registered nurse and 30 minutes of weekly exercise. A healthy meal, provided by the Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation, is offered at each session.

Space is limited and registration is required. For more information or to register, call Kim Finney at 243-3047.
