ST. LOUIS — Albert Pujols stroked line drives to all three fields. It was a bad omen for the New York Mets.

Pujols homered twice and Kyle Lohse lasted just long enough for another win after jamming his right knee as the St. Louis Cardinals completed a three-game sweep with a 12-8 victory over the Mets yesterday.

"If my swing is good, I'm going to hit the ball hard everywhere," Pujols said. "My job is to try to see a pitch I can hit, and drive it."

Rick Ankiel homered and doubled twice, and Skip Schumaker hit a pair of RBI doubles as the Cardinals punished Livan Hernandez and won their seventh in a row at home. The Mets lost their fourth straight overall.

"I think we might have caught them on a little bit of a down slide, but that's the way it goes," Ankiel said. "Good for us."

St. Louis led 11-3 after six innings en route to sweeping the Mets in a three-game series at home for the first time since Aug. 6-8, 2004.

Hernandez (1-1) gave up all three homers and allowed seven runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Lohse (3-0) is 11-2 in 21 starts at home the last two seasons although he barely qualified for this win. He escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fifth on Gary Sheffield's double-play ball and left with a 4-2 lead.

BREWERS 6, PHILLIES 1

Dave Bush did not allow a hit for 7 1/3 innings until pinch-hitter Matt Stairs homered off the foul pole, and visiting Milwaukee got homers from Ryan Braun and Bill Hall to beat Philadelphia. Phillies starter Cole Hamels (0-2) was forced to leave after getting hit in the left shoulder by Prince Fielder's line drive in the fourth inning.

REDS 7, CUBS 1

Aaron Harang (2-2) allowed only one unearned run and seven hits over seven innings, and Joey Votto homered, doubled twice and singled to lead visiting Cincinnati over Chicago and Carlos Zambrano (1-1), who hasn't won at Wrigley Field since last Aug. 21.

DODGERS 2, ASTROS 0

Chad Billingsley (4-0), helped by double plays that ended the second, fifth and sixth innings, scattered three hits over 7 1/3 innings, and Manny Ramirez and Casey Blake each drove in a run as visiting Los Angeles beat Houston to end a two-game losing streak.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

INDIANS 5, ROYALS 2

Grady Sizemore greeted reliever Ron Mahay with a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jensen Lewis (2-2) worked two scoreless innings and Kerry Wood worked a perfect ninth for his third save in as many chances as Cleveland beat Kansas City.

MARINERS 1, RAYS 0

Ichiro Suzuki lined James Shields' second pitch of the game for a home run, Felix Hernandez (3-0) spaced four hits over seven innings, David Aardsma pitched a perfect eighth, and Brandon Morrow earned his fifth save in five chances as host Seattle beat Tampa Bay.

ORIOLES 6, WHITE SOX 2

Adam Eaton (1-2) gave up two runs and six hits in 7 1/3 innings, and host Baltimore roughed up Chicago and Bartolo Colon. Colon gave up five runs, eight hits and two walks in three innings, his shortest start since July 23, 2007, against Oakland as a member of the Los Angeles Angels.

BLUE JAYS 5, RANGERS 2

Alex Rios hit a two-run homer, and Vernon Wells and Lyle Overbay also homered as host Toronto beat Texas. Josh Hamilton and Chris Davis hit solo shots for Texas, which has hit a major league-leading 29 home runs this season. Toronto is second with 28.

ANGELS 10, TIGERS 5

Matt Palmer (1-0) gave up five runs and six hits in six-plus innings to earn his first major league victory, and Torii Hunter hit a solo homer — the 800th RBI of his career — in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 3-2 lead Los Angeles never relinquished in its win over Detroit.
