Kailua Road is closed going toward Kailua at Uluoa Street because of an accident between a van and two motorcycles that left one rider dead and another in critical condition.

The riders of the motorcycles were described as men in their 40s.

One was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's emergency services department. The other was taken to a local trauma center in critical condition.

No one in the van was injured, according to Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

The crash was reported at 2:09 p.m. today.

Police are diverting traffic onto Kalanianaole Highway from the Pali Highway.
