Hawai'I successfully defended its Western Athletic Conference tennis championship today, upsetting 20th-ranked Boise State, 4-2, at the UH Tennis Complex.

Freshman Leo Rosenberg clinched the victory with a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 win on the No. 3 court. Rosenberg won the final four games of his match.

Hawai'I (10-9), ranked 68th nationally, will head to its second NCAA Tournament in as many years. The Rainbows also upset nationally ranked Fresno State and BSU last year to win their first WAC championship.

UH seniors Jeff Fitch and Sascha Heinemann, and sophomore teammate Dennis Lajola were named all-tournament in singles while, Lajola and Fitch, and Rosenberg and Andreas Weber were all-tournament in doubles.

The 'Bows won their first doubles point in six matches, shocking the Broncos (22-8) early. Heinemann and Craig Faulk clinched that point when the first two doubles teams split.

Hawai'I then won the first set in five of the six singles matches.

Boise State won at No. 6 to tie the match at 1-all, but Fitch captured No. 5 singles and Heinemann, who clinched the victory over No. 41 Fresno Saturday night, swept at No. 4. Lajola lost in three sets on the No. 1 court, but Rosenberg clinched moments later, with Weber up 6-4, 3-4 against 26th-ranked Clancy Shields.

Boise State, which should get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, was seeded first and FSU second, with Hawai'I third.
