BASKETBALL

MARUYAMA TO COACH

'Iolani co-athletic director Eddie Maruyama told The Advertiser yesterday he will take over as the Raiders' girls basketball coach next season.

Maruyama, who coached Moanalua's boys to state championships in 1996 and 1997 and an O'ahu Interscholastic Association title in 1990, replaces Marlene Zeug, who guided 'Iolani to a runner-up finish in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and sixth place at the state tournament in her one season at the helm.

Maruyama also said co-athletic director Carl Schroers, who returned to coach 'Iolani's wrestling program this past season, will step down as coach and a replacement will be named later.

He added that girls basketball assistant coaches Rodney Veary and Glenn Young will remain on staff.
