Horse racing: Filly dies following collision at Churchill Downs

Associated Press

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 2-year-old filly has died following a collision with another horse at Churchill Downs.

Raspberry Miss, trained by Ken McPeek, died from hemmoragic shock according to veterinarian Larry Bramlage.

Raspberry Miss was standing near the finish line during training Monday when Doctor Rap dumped jockey Tony Farina and took off. Doctor Rap ran into the back of Raspberry Miss, sending both horses to the ground.

Raspberry Miss was taken to an equine hospital in Lexington with multiple fractures in her pelvis. Bramlage recommended she be euthanized, but the filly died from shock before being administered an injection.

Several Kentucky Derby horses were on the track at the time of the incident but were not affected.
