A group that promotes travel within and to the United States is urging a measured, pragmatic response to the swine flu outbreak to avoid a panic and economic upheaval if health risks aren't imminent.

Roger Dow, president of the U.S. Travel Association, noted the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said there is no reason to stop traveling to or within the United States.

"We recommend that government officials treat this issue and any forthcoming statements with care and caution," said Dow in a press statement the group released.

"We must address the situation with measured, pragmatic responses so as not to cause panic and negative consequences to the economy if health risks are not imminent."

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today said a new U.S. travel advisory was being prepared suggesting "nonessential" travel to Mexico be avoided.
