Hawaii Pacific sweeps baseball doubleheader

Micah Takahashi and two relievers combined on a three-hitter as Hawai'i Pacific beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 10-1, yesterday to complete a baseball doubleheader sweep at Hans L'Orange Park.

Jonah Hobson and Cheynne Hirota had four hits apiece for HPU (25-16). Hirota had three RBIs.

Matt Maggiolo and Nick Alexander each pitched a scoreless inning of relief of Takahashi, who went five innings, allowing one run, three hits and one walk. He struck out one.

In the first game, Blake Amaral had four hits and three RBIs, and Jacob Valentine and Hobson had three RBIs apiece as HPU beat UH-Hilo, 15-12.

Keoni Manago had four hits and four RBIs for UH-Hilo (20-21).


SOFTBALL

HOST HAWAI'I-HILO SWEEPS CHAMINADE

Amber Waracka and Christina Pedroza earned complete-game victories as Hawai'i-Hilo completed a softball doubleheader sweep of Chaminade yesterday at Hualani Park in Hilo.

Bryanna Hardy, Sarah Weisskopf and Aisha Sueda had two RBIs apiece in support of Waracka, who allowed eight hits, three walks and one unearned run in UH-Hilo's 8-1 victory in the first game.

Waracka struck out four.

In the second game, Pedroza fired a four-hitter with two strikeouts, and she also drove in three runs in the 8-0 win that was stopped after five innings.

UH-Hilo improved to 26-20. Chaminade dropped to 9-40.

WAC TOURNAMENT TICKETS ON SALE TODAY

Ticket packages for the Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament May 21 to 24 at Les Murakami Stadium go on sale today, the University of Hawai'i announced yesterday.

Tickets packages for all games of the double-elimination tournament are $35 for the lower and mid levels, and $25 for the upper level.

The tournament features the top six teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season. There are three games in each of the first three days of the tournament with the championship set for May 24.

The packages may be purchased online at http://www.hawaiiathletics.com or at the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays or by calling 944-2697 from a 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hawai'i (26-16) is tied for first in the conference with a 9-6 record.
