Kauai officials remind residents to sign up for mass notification system

Advertiser Staff

Kauai County officials are reminding residents to sign up for Connect-CTY, a free mass notification service that will enable the county to quickly inform residents about emergency situations through a single phone call.

This service will also allow officials to send text messages to cell phones, PDAs, email accounts, and TTY/TDD receiving devices for the hearing impaired.

A test call will be conducted Friday at 11:45 a.m. to ensure that residents are aware of the Connect-CTY service and can provide their correct phone numbers and email addresses should they not receive the test message.

Publicly available primary residential and business phones on Kauai will automatically be included in the system.

However, residents can opt to provide up to three phone numbers and two email addresses, and indicate if they have a TTY/TDD device.

To register for Connect-CTY, please log on to the county Web site at: www.kauai.gov

Those without Internet access can have their information added to the county database by calling 241-1800.
