Abe Lee Realty expands business

Local real estate brokerage and development firm Abe Lee Realty is acquiring the property management business of Kuchler and Co.

The deal will enable Abe Lee to increase residential property management services and expand into commercial real estate management. Kuchler Co. principal Philip "Flip" Kuchler is moving to Washington state to run a bed and breakfast.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Abe Lee is assuming property-management contracts for mostly multifamily apartment buildings and some commercial property, and will hire Kuchler's staff of three employees. Abe Lee branched out into some property management within the last two years, and with the Kuchler acquisition is forming Abe Lee Property Management.


WASTEWATER FIRM WINS AWARD

Honolulu-based Environmental Waste Management Systems Inc. was honored for the second year in a row by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as its Blue Ribbon Small Business Award recipient.

Harold Nagato, president and CEO of Environmental Wastewater Management Systems Inc., said he was honored to be recognized and surprised to receive the award two years in a row.

"We have all worked hard to make this business a success and I am both proud and humbled by this award," said Nagato.

Environmental Waste Management Systems is the manufacturer and marketer of the ESIS wastewater treatment system.


LEI CHIC MAGAZINE HAS NEW OWNER

PacificBasin Communications, publishers of eight local magazines including Honolulu and Hawaii Business, has acquired Lei Chic, a local e-mail magazine covering fashion, shopping and eating out.

Alyson Helwagen, founder of Lei Chic, will join PacificBasin and continue in the role of publisher. In addition, Helwagen has been named editor for PacificBasin's custom publishing division, and will oversee Ala Moana Magazine, Ward Centers Magazine and Whalers Village Magazine.

"We are excited to bring the unique Lei Chic brand under our umbrella," said Scott Schumaker, vice president and group publisher at PacificBasin. "It's a solid complement to our other titles and lets us deliver the top-quality editorial we are known for through a purely online medium."
