One of the things that makes living in Hawai'i special is the annual series of obon festivals held by Buddhist temples and community organizations. The Advertiser will publish its annual bon dance calendar in June.

If your religious or community organization is planning an obon observance, we'd like to hear from you by May 30. Please include the time, date, location, events planned and phone number.

Send your bon dance announcements to: Bon Dance Calendar, Island Life, The Advertiser, P.O. Box 3110, Honolulu, HI 96802; islandlife@honoluluadvertiser.com, with "Bon Dance Calendar" in the subject line; or fax 525-8055.

A WEEK WITHOUT SPENDING? FOR REAL!

Go a week, a few days or even one day without spending a dime. "It made me realize how much money I'm really ripping through," says Jeff Yeager, personal-finance expert and author of "The Ultimate Cheapskate's Road Map to True Riches." You'd be surprised how much you can save, and it opens your eyes to things you can live without regularly, and how much money we waste. $1.99 for a Dasani? Don't think so. Besides a push toward a tighter budget, it's a reminder that we can still have fun without spending any money.
