May Day and Hula Festival to feature Hawaiian culture

The Nanaikapono Community School Museum and Halau Na Mamo O Tulipa will present the Wai'anae Coast May Day and Hula Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 9 at Ka Pa Hula O Kamohoali'i, the hula mound in the heart of the Nanaikapono Elementary School campus in Nanakuli.

Organizers say the event, the first of its kind at the school, will allow families to celebrate May Day in their own community.

Hale Kiawe, the school's museum, will be open for visitors to view the many Hawaiian cultural arts and crafts the facility has acquired. Halau Hula students will perform hula and other Polynesian dance on the recently erected hula mound.

There will be food, drinks, arts, crafts, and game booths available throughout the day.

Those who would like to perform or have a booth at the festival may call 220-1704 for further information.
