5-year-old bitten on face by neighbor's pit bull in SUV

Kaua'i police said a 5-year-old girl was bitten on her face by a pit bull Sunday when she entered a neighbor's sport utility vehicle.

The incident took place about 1 p.m. in the parking lot at the Kawailehua housing development.

Police said the dog was secured by a leash in the vehicle.

The girl, who was bitten on her lips and cheek, was initially treated at the scene by firefighters and paramedics.

She was then taken to Wilcox Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Police are continuing their investigation of the incident.
