Clogged pipe causes Honokai Hale sewage spill

Advertiser Staff

A clog in a pipe resulted in a spill of about 2,000 gallons of sewage in Honokai Hale this evening, the city reported.

Grease and rags backed up an 8-inch vitrified clay pipe and out a manhole fronting 92-731 Paakai St.

An estimated 2,000 gallons reached a dry canal where it dissipated, not reaching a body of water. The city Department of Environmental Services notified the state Department of Health. Warning signs were posted and water samples taken.

City crews received a call at 6:25 p.m., arrived on the scene at 7:35 p.m. and secured the site at 10:00 p.m.
