Fire damages Chinatown studio apartment

Honolulu firefighters extinguished a fire that resulted in minor damage to a second-floor studio apartment on North Hotel Street this morning.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no other units in the building were affected.
Three fire engines, one ladder truck and a battalion chief responded to the 8:56 a.m. call.
The smoldering fire was brought under control at 9:03 a.m. and extinguished by 9:09 a.m.
The Hawaiçi Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the the sole occupant of with food, clothing and shelter.
Damage is estimated at 1,500 to the structure and $500 to its contents.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
