The victim in an early-morning shooting near Ke'eaumoku Street on Friday has been identified by the Honolulu medical examiner's office as Shawn Powell of Honolulu.

Powell, 35, and a group of friends were exiting Seoul Karaoke at 4:19 a.m. Friday when Powell got into an argument with the suspect, police said.

Witnesses said the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Phillip Deleon, fired in the air several times before shooting Powell once in the chest and driving away.

Powell was taken in critical condition to an area hospital, where he later died.

Police arrested Deleon at 9:15 p.m. Friday at Honolulu International Airport, where he was trying to catch a flight to the Mainland, according to Honolulu Police Department spokesman Maj. Clayton Kau.

Deleon was taken to the main police station and booked for investigation of second-degree murder.
