Diamond Head Classic, Maui Invitational matchups announced

The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will host College of Charleston on the opening day of the inaugural Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in December.

The schedule for the three-day, eight-team tournament was announced today on ESPNews.

The Rainbow Warriors will play the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 22 at the Stan Sheriff Center. The game is scheduled to be televised nationally on ESPNU.

The second round is scheduled for Dec. 23, with the final day on Dec. 25.

Hawai'i finished 13-17 last season, while Charleston finished 27-9.

Other first-round pairings for Dec. 22: Northeastern vs. Saint Mary's, 10 a.m.; Western Michigan vs. USC, noon; SMU vs. UNLV, 5:30 p.m.

Ten of the 12 games in the tournament will be televised nationally on either ESPNU or ESPN2.

Ticket information for the tournament has yet to be announced.

Also announced today were the first-round pairings for the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

Maui Invitational schedule for Nov. 23: Colorado vs. Gonzaga, 10 a.m.; Cincinnati vs. Vanderbilt, 12:30 p.m.; Chaminade vs. Maryland, 4:30 p.m.; Arizona vs. Wisconsin, 7 p.m.

All games in the Maui Invitational will be played at the Lahaina Civic Center. The second day is Nov. 24, with the final day on Nov. 25.

All 12 games of the Maui Invitational will be televised nationally on the ESPN network of stations (ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU).
