Three Hawai'i golfers finished in the top 64 in stroke play yesterday — led by Big Island native Kimberly Kim who was tied for eighth — to advance to match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at St. Louis.

Danielle Kang, 16, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., shot a 3-under-par 68 to earn medalist honors at 4-under 138. Kim shot a 74—143. Also advancing were Honolulu's Stephanie Kono, who was tied for 28th (71—147) and Maui's Cassy Isagawa, who was tied for 46th (76—149).

The first round of match play begins today.

BASEBALL

HILO'S TEAMS WIN

Koa Matson batted 4 for 4 with a double and five RBIs, and Kean Wong, Chayce Kaaua and Quintin Torres-Costa each drove in two runs as Hilo beat Ventura, Calif., 14-4, in the Little League Juniors (ages 13-14) West Regional at Aliso Viejo, Calif.

Matson had a two-run double in the first, another two-run double in the fourth and an RBI single in the sixth.

The game ended after six innings because of the mercy rule.

At Ontario, Calif., Edwin Pacris went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, and Ridge Hoopii-Haslam hit a two-run inside-the-park homer as Hilo defeated Portland, Ore., 11-0, in the Little League Senior (ages 15-16) West Regional yesterday.

Brendan Owings and Connor Yoshioka combined on a one-hitter in a game shortened to five innings.
