Driver of SUV that flipped allegedly failed sobriety test

Advertiser Staff

A 25-year-old Koloa man was arrested for investigation of drunken driving Monday night after his sport utility vehicle rolled over several times on Rice Street.

Kaua'i police said Joshua Collins sustained cuts but refused medical treatment.

Collins was arrested after, police say, failing a field sobriety test. He was released after posting $250 bail.

According to a preliminary report, Collins was traveling west on Rice Street about 8 p.m. and approaching the Kapuli Highway junction when he swerved to avoid a vehicle that was turning right onto Rice from Kapuli.

Collins lost control of the SUV, and the vehicle rolled over several times before coming to a stop in the westbound lane of Rice Street.
