Junior lifeguards will showcase skills tomorrow at Ala Moana Beach Park

Advertiser Staff

The city’s Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division will host the 2009 State Junior Lifeguard Championships tomorrow at Ala Moana Beach Park.

The event, involving more than 200 competitors from the statewide junior lifeguard summer program, will be at the ewa end of the park and run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is open to the public. There is no admission charge.
Teams from Oahu’s five program sites, plus teams from the Neighbor Islands, will showcase the skills they learned in the program.
“We are delighted that Oahu will again be hosting this year’s championships,” Mayor Mufi Hannemann said in a statement. “It provides an opportunity for participants from across the state to display their newly acquired skills and really show why the Hawaii Junior Lifeguard Program is respected world-wide.”
